GIN while Kevin was in prison: what I saw

The first event without him

I was there. It was the first Major Event after the receivership, and Kevin was not allowed to come. It was hard to deal with. We were all a little sad. And in that room you could see the leadership that was emerging to take over.

Why I was not afraid

I had no question that GIN would survive and end up better than before. I was prepared for a long cycle. Not everybody was. I was a full level six member at that point, one of what I believe was fewer than a hundred in the club, and at that level you hold a long-term point of view.

The long cycle

It was long. The club changed hands a few times, and some of the leadership was better than others. People left on a lot of different grounds. Mainly they felt that Kevin was the source of the material and that no one else could replicate it. I was more in that camp than not.

The letters

While he was in prison, Kevin and I wrote back and forth, multiple times. I was in a hard stretch of my own life. He took the time to write me himself, paying for his own postage and materials, and gave me really keen guidance on what I was dealing with and how to handle it. He did not have to do that, then of all times. Whatever was happening with the club's leadership, I had a close connection with him.

The return

The first event after his release, he appeared by video. That was at The Mirage in Las Vegas, and I was so happy to see him. The room felt different than before; there were a lot of members I did not know. Then he came back to the events in person and produced Level Eight, and I was at parts of that recording.

Pretty quickly his imprint on the group returned. The driving engine of the club was back in it. It pushed out some people who had liked the leadership that stood in his stead. For most of us who had been around a long time, we were thrilled.
